Penguin Random House Books|4 Years < Small Things Mended

“Make a friend, mend a heart.” In this timeless and award-winning picture book, Small Things Mended, from Casey Robinson and illustrated by Nancy Whitesides, we follow the story of how to mend a broken heart through the tiny stiches and tinkering that ultimately rebuild community and connection.

Although kindly Cecil has a broken heart, when the kids in his neighborhood ask him to fix their treasures—a music box, a watch, a stuffed elephant—he finds that he knows exactly how to do this important mending. And in return, his new circle of friends shares the gift of mending that his own heart truly needs.

This gentle, kindhearted, and enduring story connects the generations of a community and illuminates how they can sustain and enrich eachother. It is a story that beautifully showcases the value of repairing and taking care of things―and loving their history―as opposed to discarding them.
